To all motorsport enthusiasts out there, get ready to gear up and explore every twists and slopes of the FIA World Rally Championship through the Qt-powered WRC Live App made by Nokia.
The WRC Live App is the all-in-one hub on mobile for all WRC enthusiasts and drivers. It supports all platforms ranging from S40 and Symbian to MeeGo and WP7, and can be downloaded for free from Nokia Store and WP Market.
And to know more of the app, please refer below for the review.
Let’s start with the home dashboard…
On running the app, it is noticeably fast and fluid. Loading the home just takes some few seconds, provided you have an internet connection. When you’re on the home you will also notice how nifty the interface and the other graphical images. Theme is blend of dark colors which is very battery friendly to AMOLED Nokias.
The home view gives you a ticker banner of news highlights on top, a corner for latest rally in left side, and different sections of the app on the right side.
Tapping on the top news banner directs you to the news section where you will see the lists of latest news from drives to inside gossips on the world of FIA motorsport. Once you’ve selected a news, it will then direct you to the full article accompanied by featured image. There’s also a share button and navigation controls once you’ve tapped the screen and you can slide the news left and right using the controls.
Aside from the bottom controls that pops out once you’ve tapped on the news section, you can also use the top navigation bar to navigate from page to page. It also the main nav bar for other sections. And transitions from page to page is very snappy, which I like most.
Back to the home view, latest and hottest rally event is highlighted on the left corner. When you’re on the latest rally section, table of results and news are layout very well and with sub sections categories present on the left.
Thanks to overview and itinerary section, I just knew that Britain’s World Rally Championship is a qualifying round of the entire WRC series (even I’m not that a pro WRC enthusiast at least I’ve learned a new thing about WRC, just a Top Gear fan too, though).![]()
Other sub sections include the special stages where tracks are labeled and mapped, the results section, live text commentary from announcers & personalities in WRC, and media section.
Special stages is one of the special feature of the app where you can see the different locations of tracks and catch up with your favorite teams live in the map. More options gives you details for run time, driver and their positions on a table format. Zoom and lock options are also supported on the map view. Thanks Nokia Maps! ![]()
Both media, and rallies and results section can be access via home or on this section. Rallies and results deliver rankings, calendar of events, and results organized in many table.
If you’re more interested on the photos and videos (like me) then just head over to media section where snaps from the motorsports events can be found and different videos too ranging from reports (Nokia exclusive) to clips of the different action-filled happenings inside the tracks. Share and nav controls are available too in photo viewing.
One of my favorite section is the drivers and teams where everyone can get a chance to know some background of different rally personalities.
Highlights…
If you want to be fueled up with WRC happenings, this app is definitely worth of trying out especially it’s free and it works on all Nokia platforms. It’s filled with stuff that a motorsport and WRC fans looking for, even for non-WRC fans there you will still find the contents interesting and will make you fiddle all through every corners, and happenings in motorsport world.
