Phablet comparison: Lumia 1520 vs Lumia 1320

| November 4, 2013 | 2 Comments

I was so lucky to got my hands-on of the latest Nokia phablets, the Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1320, from the Nokia World in Abu Dhabi. I captured several photos and a video of the two in yellow variant and compared both.

So let’s take a look on what each device offers before they become available in stores, globally.

Both features large, breathtaking display and run on the latest Lumia Black OS (WP8 version GDR3). Specifically, the Lumia 1520 sports a 20MP PureView camera and top-notch hardware innards. On the other hand, the Lumia 1320 has the best hardware offering including a 6-inch HD display for an affordable price of $339.

The Lumia 1320 looks similar to the Lumia 625. However, the 1520′s design is inspired from Lumia 925. The hump on the 1520′s back due to the camera sensor doesn’t feel weird or cumbersome, instead, it feels premium.

For size comparison, the Lumia 1520 is thinner and bit lighter than 1320. It’s really fascinating given the fact the Lumia 1520 has built-in wireless charging. But maybe, the removable back cover on the 1320 has compensated its thickness and weight after all.

Corners on the 1320 are more rounded and sides are more curvy than 1520.

The overall feel on both phablets are almost the same–solid, smooth and premium.

In terms of screen size, both have the same diagonal size with thin bezels. Resolution on the 1520 is higher (1080p vs 720p) than 1320. But 1320 managed to utilize Gorilla Glass 3 and leaving the 1520 on Gorilla Glass 2. In the end, both displays possess bright, clear and very responsive output.

The two has their own each distinctive features. Lumia 1520 being the premium one and the Lumia 1320 as more affordable phablet choice.

Despite the affordability of Lumia 1320, it remains to have an excellent hardware particularly the large display and battery life. It is a thing which is hard to match for any competitor phablets out there, currently.

For the Lumia 1520, Nokia has pulled out the best offering in their Lumia yet. You got the 20MP Pureview camera, superb display and sleek design. Plus of the powerful innards, the Lumia 1520 could beat many Android phablets out there.

So in the end, it is just a matter of what you need and how far you can go. If you can spend up to $749, then the Lumia 1520 is the only way to go. For more cheaper option, the Lumia 1320 is the right one for anyone.
